Dowsing or using a pendulum has been used for over 8,000 years. The first record of dowsing was found on a rock painting in the Caves of Tassili in Africa which showed dowsing for water. Pendulums continue to be used today to find precious metals, oil, and water. People historically have used them to determine ailments and the sex of children in the womb. Farmers used pendulums to predict the sex of their livestock.
