Candles have been used for spirituality for centuries. Churches, sanctuaries, and temples have used candles to illuminate and inspire hope. Romans used candles for pyromancy (divination with fire). In earlier centuries candles were generally white or ivory. During the last century's many religions, including Christian-based religions, have incorporated colored candles in their many rituals and holidays. The colors of candles are a tool to aid in focusing on one's wishes or beliefs.
